Turkey Leaves Craft

After reading Bethany’s post about nature hike crafts, I have been taking the girls on nature walks as much as possible. My strollers are filled with leaves, pine cones, and all sorts of nature bounty Ellie finds on the ground. I thought it would be fun to do another craft post using some things that Ellie could pick herself during our walks.

Ellie loves leaves, so I decided to make Turkey leaves. It was very easy to do and there are lots of ways you can adapt the craft to fit the needs of your artists.

Supplies:

Wooded craft sticks (1 per turkey)

Paint (I did the painting so I used acrylic)

Felt

Leaves that you have collected on a nature walk

Hot glue and hot glue gun

Step 1: Paint the craft stick

Step 2: Cut out a beak and waddle from your felt. Glue onto the stick. (I used the hot glue).

Step 3: Add eyes. (I have been trying to do crafts with supplies I already have on hand to save myself a trip to the store and to save money. So my eyes are drawn on with a sharpie.)

Step 4: Glue craft stick on to the leaf. You will notice in the picture that my turkey is missing a little piece of leaf. That is because we picked leaves that were just a little too dry. Softer, more flexible leaves would be best. I like the look of just using one leaf. Based on the size of the leaves you find you may want to use more.

I purposefully left part of the craft stick below the leaf for eager toddler hands to hold the leaf. We took ours on another nature walk!

Thanks. Adding this to crafts for our 7 grands that come every Sunday. We do have an abundance of leaves right now.
