Personalized Birthday Outfit

Next time someone you love (especially your child or grandchild) is having a birthday and you want them to feel extra special, you can make the birthday girl or birthday boy a personalized birthday shirt or onesie. We started a fun tradition for one of my granddaughters on her first birthday and we are going to continue the tradition this year, next week. Here is the ruffled onesie I made for her last year and she wore it with purple baby leggings.   IMG_3648

This year we will skip the ruffles and make the birthday outfit a t-shirt that she will wear with a tutu and her little sister will have a “Lil Sis” onesie to match.

Now I will show you how easy this project is.
Supplies you will need:
t-shirt or onesie
¼-½ yard cotton fabric
¼ yard Wonder Under Pellon
fabric scissors
iron
ironing board
stencils of scratch paper to draw your numbers

For a matching hair bow
hot glue gun
felt
hair clip

Wash and dry the t-shirt or onesie. Take the Wonder Under and cut a square a little bit bigger than the number or letters that you are going to cut out. Follow the directions on the Wonder Under and iron the rough side (not the paper texture side) onto the wrong side of your fabric. Make your stencil out of construction paper and once you cut out your stencil you need to trace it backwards onto the paper side of the Wonder Under. Cut out your number or letters and peel the paper off the Wonder Under. IMG_0018

You now have a custom made iron on patch that you place onto your garment and iron into place. Carefully peel off the paper from your Wonder Under and iron your number or patch onto your garment.  For an added touch of color and extra stability, I sewed a zigzag stitch around the iron on patch.IMG_0020

Now if you have time and want to make a matching bow take two strips of fabric 24 inches by 4 inches. Fold long edges in ½ inch on each side and fold in half. Begin to twist the fabric and twirl into a flower using hot glue gun to secure as you twist and twirl. Cut a small circle of felt to glue onto the back and another smaller rectangle of felt to glue across the circle to secure the clip.IMG_0086

Enjoy!

Who could you surprise with a creative birthday t-shirt or onesie?
