Must Have Products for New Mamas

This week, we are continuing to celebrate Moms – Woohoo!! Being a mom can be overwhelming and hard, and finding the “BEST” products can be even more overwhelming and hard! Today, I am going to share with you a few of my Must Have Products that I have loved as a new mom! These are products that I would call more of an investment – a few items that we spent the most money on, but also the products that we used the most, and probably more than we ever thought imaginable.

4MOMS PLAYARD

We have used our 4MOMS Playard more than I ever thought we would. When my daughter was first born, the playard is what she napped in and played in when we weren’t holding her so that we could easily see her while we worked around the house. Having her out in the living room also helped her to get acclimated to noise. In the last year, we have traveled with this to friends’ and grandparents’ houses, hotels and more – we never had to worry about where Sophie would sleep or the hassle of a long setup when we were away from home.

Here is what I love most about the 4MOMS Playard…

  1. It packs up really nicely and is light enough for me to carry on my own.

2. It is SO EASY and QUICK to assemble and breakdown! (Probably our FAVORITE part)

3. Sophie loved it!!

The top mattress bassinet allowed me to use it when she was little. As she grew, I simply took the top piece off to use the bottom mattress. She spent a lot of time in this and I always felt so safe and secure putting her in it.

One of the biggest turnoffs to this product for some people is the price. 4MOMS products are not cheap, but the quality they use for their products is exceptional! My husband and I both feel like it was and will continue to be worth every penny (and he’s usually pretty cheap ha)! And, the time saved from not having to put it together and take it apart like other pack n plays really makes a difference. When buying our placard, we took advantage of the Babies R Us “trade in event” which gave us 25% off. The only other negative would be that the sheets are sold separately. But, even with these factors involved, we absolutely love this item and haven’t regretted this purchase for a second! We loved it so much we convinced Bethany and Mike and my parents to get one, too 😀

TULA BABY CARRIER

We are a Tula wearing family 🙂 Rachel did a lot of research and testing of baby carriers when she first started having children and found that Tula Baby Carriers are by far the best! So, when Bethany and I started having children of our own, we of course listened to her advice! And, yes, we both picked the same one without knowing :p

Here’s why we love our Tula Baby Carriers…

  1. It is made very well and is very comfortable.

I was so grateful for how comfortable it is particularly when Sophie had about 9 months in a row that she only napped on me in the Tula. I should’ve recorded the amount of hours I have wore Sophie in her first year because our Tula sure got A LOT of use!  It is made with padded shoulder straps to take tension off of the neck and shoulders which makes it very comfy.

2. They are made with baby in mind!

Tula Baby Carriers are made so that when baby is sitting, their hips are in the perfect “M” position that is best for their hip development. This was very important to me, but also important to my Pediatrician husband to know that what Sophie spent so much time in was benefitting her development. Speaking of my hubby…

3. They are comfortable enough and stylish enough for Daddy (especially for wearing for full days at Disneyland 😉 )

4. It is a long term carrier.

This Tula carrier can be used for a baby that weighs 15-45 pounds. As you can see in the picture above with Bethany, there is also an infant insert that can be purchased that allows you to use your carrier starting at 7 pounds! However, Tula very recently came out with their newest design called “Free-to-Grow” which has variable width and height settings to use from 7-45 pounds. These carriers can also be used for back carrying, too!

HALO BASSINEST

We used the HALO Bassinest for Sophie to sleep in for her first months. We had planned to use a hand-me-down co-sleeper bassinet, but when it didn’t seem like it was in as good of shape as we hoped, we had to make a quick decision. And, we were very pleased with what we decided.

Why we love the HALO Bassinest…

  1. The mobility.

The bassinest swivels so that you can move it closer and further away from the bed. I also loved that the top bar bent down so that I could always grab Sophie very easy from it, especially late at night. I loved having Sophie so close, but also the safety of her not being in our bed.

2. The “Plain Jane” is enough.

There were two different styles that we were looking at – I’ll call them “Plain Jane” and “Bells and Whistles”. Plain Jane was just a standard bassinet and the bells and whistles had bells and whistles – music, lights, etc. We were told from another’s experience that the bells and whistles were actually more of a deterrent – the light was too bright, the music was too loud – and really all that was needed was the actual bassinet.

The only negative to the HALO Bassinest is its wide base. It has two heavy, angled legs to keep it stable and very durable (another positive) but they go out pretty far. The idea behind this is that part of the leg structure would go under your bed and it takes up less space. However, we have a bed frame that goes all the way to the ground so the base of our bassinest took up more room than we would’ve liked. This wasn’t something that bothered us enough to not love it, but it is something to think about if you have a bed frame like ours or don’t have much space next to you by the bed.
