Gammie’s Granola

There are very few things more satisfying than a bowl full of homemade granola with fruit and yogurt. I started making granola when I was a newlywed and once I perfected the recipe I just could not go back to the store bought. This recipe is the basic delicious crunchy style granola with many optional add-ins to encourage experimentation and offering the ability to customize your own favorite variety. Now that I am a grandmother -Gammie is my chosen name- it is now called Gammie’s Granola. Have fun experimenting and enjoy!

Ingredients

8 cups oats
5 cups Grapenuts
1 cup oatbran
1/2 cup flaxseed or ground flax meal
1/2 cup wheatgerm
2-3 Tablespoons cinnamon
3/4 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup honey
Add ins: slivered almonds, flaked coconut, raisins, craisins, chopped dried apricots, walnut pieces, sesame seeds

Mix all dry ingredients. Warm oil and honey in the microwave and heat for 1 minute. Pour liquid over dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly and pour into two aluminum roasting pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1-2 hours. Stir every 20 minutes until until golden brown.

This granola recipe has become a favorite in our family. It is a delicious breakfast cereal and can be served with milk or with fruit and yogurt. It can also be mixed with dried fruit and nuts for a wonderful midmorning snack. it is usually the top requested item for me to bring when I go to visit my girls all over the world.

What is one of your all time family favorite healthy snacks?

Sounds delicious! I am purchasing ingredients today to make it tonite and hope Mark will also like it as I am tired of buying expensive cereals for him to eat. And I love, love healthy granolas – made them often in college, and when the kids were young, but got back into making it with the recipe from Precepts. THis will be a nice change! Thanks!
