The essentials of demonstrating LOVE to your children….

The Culture of a Spoken Word
My parents have been visiting me and my husband here in Grenada for the last few weeks. We have done some pretty amazing things exploring the island, hiking, swimming in the bluest water any of us have every seen and so much more. There was something about this trip that was unique. Through meeting new people and developing relationships with some of the locals at my parent’s resort and during the activities we did, we learned some very interesting information. Through personal stories and history of Grenada, we were informed how they pass on their knowledge through their families. It was so interesting to learn because this part of their culture is so often foreign in America. The way that many Grenadians pass on traditions and family heritage is through hands-on demonstration only when a child asks or shows an interest in something. …

Hiking, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling…..all components of a fun adventure on a tropical island, but what made this summer vacation one of the “best of the best” experiences ever, was the time we spent with our daughter and son-in-law. …

At what age do you become known as full of wisdom? This week we have been celebrating my husband’s grandma’s 93rd birthday. So she is my grandma-in-law, but that is just a mouthful. So we will just call her Grandma Kay as the rest of the family does. 93 years. That is a LONG time. 93 years on this earth means you have experienced so much, seen so much change, and lived through so many different moments of history. Wars. Politics. Government. Economy. Religion. Revolutions. Technology. Natural Disasters. Styles. Trends. Culture. Entertainment.…

Lately, I have had some success including the girls in my chores and household activities. I use the word “some” on purpose because I know with kids what works one day won’t work another day. However, I hope that what I share can encourage you to make your kids a part of household chores and activities.…

Family dinners are such a great habit to establish within your family. Not only does it create scheduled, sit down time with family members, but a dinner table is a great place to learn more about each other and create an environment for open communication and quality time. When I was younger, I remember dinner time always being such great family time. As we got older, our schedules became busier and we would end up having picnics at the ballpark multiple times a week. However, there would still always be days during the week where we would slow down and just be together at dinnertime. And, our table was always open for more “family members”. Whether it was Friday pizza night or just a random night of the week, extra seats were always at our table.…

For the past three summers we have implemented a new tradition called Family Camp. This is a great idea for a family vacation on a budget. With our growing family, we needed a creative way to gather all of us together, appeal to the various stages of our daughter’s married/dating/young children in tow lives and keep it affordable for all. Living in such a beautiful community, with many fun outdoor activities available we decided to invite everyone up to our home for a week for “Family Camp”. Each summer has been a bit different depending on who was available to come but we have carried on the tradition and restructured a bit each year. The basic steps to getting a family camp organized are simple and easily adjusted for the needs of your family.

With a baby and a toddler to entertain all day, I am all about simplicity! So, when the weather is nice and you are ready for some fun, “just add water!” Kids love water and it is easy to clean up (when you are outside or in the bath, of course!). Elliana loves water, so we have tried a lot of different water activities. We have used buckets, a water table, the hose, and a kiddie pool.
