Reorganize Your Morning
When it comes to sleep every minute counts. As a mom, I’ll even take extra seconds. For much of my short mom life I was letting the kids be my alarm. Soaking up as many short minutes and seconds of sleep that I could. The problem with this was I had no time for myself. No way to get my mind right or spend time with God. I would tell myself that I could do those things later in the day–I’d find time. But I never did.
All that changed when I established a morning routine! I have a list of 8 things that I do each morning and try to do before the girls wake up. I don’t always make it through my list, but I notice a huge difference in my day when I do.
Many people have adopted a 5am wake-up schedule. The idea behind it is that we are more productive in the morning. There are less distractions in the morning. We are more likely to get things done first thing in the day. Although I’m not yet ready to join the 5am club, I am waking up 30 minutes to an hour before the girls to start my morning right.
My Morning Routine:
1. Express Gratitude.
I journal using a gratitude journal that really helps me keep track of things I’m grateful for and has great quotes throughout the book.
2. Morning Devotion
I am reading daily devotions from the website “She Reads Truth.” There is also an app.
3. Workout
I only have about 5 minutes to workout in the morning, but it gets my juices flowing and feels great.
5. Take 5 deep breaths
6. SMILE
7. Forgive yourself for yesterday’s mistakes
8. Get motivated
I start my morning off …

Back to School time is a busy time, but also a great time to reorganize your routine when it comes to meal planning. And if you have picky toddlers, like me, it might be time to work on introducing new foods to their limited diets!
Tonight I made my own BBQ chicken salad and ranch dressing for my girls from scratch. They can be picky about vegetables, so I was hoping that the homemade ranch would get healthy yogurt back in their diet and help them be more open to eating raw veggies.
The BBQ chicken salad just sounded good (it was 100 degrees here in Southern California today) and it tasted even better!
Homemade Ranch Dressing
1/2 cup Full-fat or 2% Greek Yogurt
1/4 tsp dried dill weed
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp parsley
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp celery seed
Mix all ingredients together. Add more spices as needed to taste.
BBQ Chicken Salad
One bag lettuce mix
1/2 cucumber, sliced and cut into half circles
1/2 red onion, diced
6 small colorful sweet peppers, diced
3 carrots, diced
2-4 chicken breasts, shredded and mixed with BBQ sauce
Balsamic Vinegar
Optional toppings: Black beans, corn, tortilla chips, cheese
Instructions: Place lettuce in a large bowl. Chop and dice vegetables to desired sizes. Prepare Chicken. Combine all ingredients and mix. Place in individual serving bowls. Top with balsamic vinegar and additional toppings as desired. Enjoy!
We enjoyed our salads with french fries and sweet potato fries and the girls paired their veggies and ranch with grilled cheese.
I am a “follow the recipe” type of cook, so it felt great to make up some recipes that sounded good in my head and have them turn out to be just as delicious as I’d imagined!…

After a few months of going way over budget or wondering where all our money went at the end of the month–my husband and I decided to reorganize our budget.
For the next month we plan to input all our spending each week so we can keep track of where our money is going and if our spending is matching our projected expenses. We hope that this will keep us on track and motivated to only spend the money we have allotted. We also committed to not eating out in the month of August to save money.
I reorganized my system for spending “fun” money for activities with the girls and with my friends so that I can track where my money is going and the amount of money I have to spend.
I started by coming up with a budget: Giving, Saving, and Spending. I organized the spending into categories: Kid activities, clothes, dance class for the girls, parking money for Disneyland, and fun money for Mom’s Nights. I plan to put the projected money I will need for each category into envelopes so that I’m only spending cash, and only spending money I have. I then put the money I will need for events coming up in my wallet and I labeled it so that I only spend it for the event it is designated for!
I know that I need to be a better steward of the money I am given and I also need to see money for the blessing it is. I am confident that reorganizing my budget and spending habits will have a positive outcome for me, for my relationship with my husband, and with our family.
Do your spending habits need to be reorganized? How do you plan to make changes in your …

It’s a powerful feeling to be forgiven for a mistake you’ve made. Knowing that although we messed up, we get a new chance to be better and to do better. As part of our sinful nature we are going to mess up and make mistakes A LOT. But we are also saved by grace–and forgiven by a love so powerful that he throws our mistakes as far as the east is to the west.
“As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far he has removed our sins from us.” -Psalm 103:12
As I was recharging myself this week by forgiveness this song came on the radio and it just so perfectly portrayed God’s forgiveness. Let the words rush over you, empower you, and fill you will joy that you serve a God that forgives. The song is called, Drops in the Ocean, by Hawk Nelson.
“Drops In The Ocean”
Won’t you lay down your guard and come to me
The shame that grips you now is crippling
It breaks my heart to see you sufferingCause I am for you
I’m not against youIf you wanna know
How far my love can go
Just how deep, just how wide
If you wanna see
How much you mean to me
Look at my hands, look at my side
If you could count the times I’d say you are forgiven
It’s more than the drops in the ocean
Don’t think you need to settle for a substitute
When I’m the only love that changes you
And I am for you
I’m not against you
I am for you
I’m not against you
If you wanna know
How far my love can go
Just how deep,
RECHARGED by Time Out
Ok, Ok before you start thinking, “What is this post about? Time outs?” Don’t worry. I’m talking time out–out of the house/Moms Night Out/Girls Night Out/Boys Night out.
Nights out are a way to connect with others. To talk and share ups and downs from the week. A chance to listen to someone who needs to be heard. An opportunity to make memories – and yes, blast those fun, happy pictures all over your social media.
No matter what your station in life, a night out is a time to recharge!!
Here’s a few ideas to get recharged by a night out.
(As always, check Groupon, Living Social, and more for coupons and discounts on fun events/fitness classes and more in your area).
Indoor rock climbing – My local climbing gym has a once a week ladies night for $5!
Trampoline park – jump jump jump to recharge and laugh a lot.
A new fitness class – most fitness classes are free your first time and sweating with friends is a great way to recharge.
Try a new restaurant – Ask your friends for a recommendation and try something you wouldn’t normally off the menu.
Go bowling – bowling is a fun way to have an activity that still allows you to talk and visit.
Drive around at night and find a place to sit and look at the stars – I know sometimes I get so caught up in life I forget to look at the beauty all around me.
Get pampered at a salon – I went to a moms night out last night at a salon for snacks, drinks, and blowouts. We even got a makeup lesson. It was so fun and a really relaxing way to talk and spend time with old and new friends.…

I am a creature of habit and routine. I could easily eat the same foods and do the same things every day and not really think about it. I like structure.
Sometimes that’s a good thing. It’s how I get out of the house every day. It’s why (I think) my kids are good at bedtime. Routine. Structure.
But here’s the bad thing: when you always do the same things you miss out on adventure, excitement, and the challenge that comes with getting out of your routine and out of your comfort zone.
Who will you meet? How will you grow? Who can you become?
Each new experience is a change to answer those questions. Yes, we will fail, but we will also learn!
So, go out and do something new. Your life is waiting for you.

Can you believe it is July already? One big reality about it being July is that means we are at the halfway point of 2015! This is the perfect time to reflect on where you are and where you are going so that you can recharge your goals.
So let’s talk about your goals for the year!
First – do you have your goals written out? (If not DO IT NOW. TODAY!!) You need to look at your goals every day so you know where you are going. So you can be choosing specific daily actions that will move you toward your goals.
Second – Do your goals have a specific date and description? Ask yourself: When will you accomplish these goals? How will you know when you are there?
Third – You must decide to succeed. Visualize yourself achieving your goals. What does your life look like? How does that affect you, your family, your job when you reach that goal? Once you have decided to succeed, be intentional about the thoughts you allow in your head. Renew your mind daily with prayer, devotions, and personal development to stay focused on your goals. You CAN do it and you WILL do it. Tell yourself that EVERY DAY!!! If you change your thoughts, feelings, and actions you will get different results!
So how does this all fit together? How will this help me reach my goals? Simple. “If you don’t know where you are going you will probably end up somewhere else.” -Zig Ziglar
****
If some of this seems familiar–GOOD! I talked about this same thing in my post, “Reveal Your Destination!” Nothing has changed. You are still going to have to put in the same effort, the same consistent daily actions, and take the same steps …

Here is my favorite fun and easy 4th of July dessert. It is so festive and the fresh fruit is the perfect end to a hot summer day of family and BBQing.
4th of July Strawberry and Blueberry Shortcake
Shortcake (made from the back of a Bisquick box!)
serves 6
2 1/3 cups biscuit mix (I used Bisquick brand)
1/2 cup milk
3 TBS sugar
3 TBS butter, melted
Star-shaped cookie cutter
Toppings (personally, the fruit is my favorite part, so the more the better!!!)
1 quart (4 cups) Fresh strawberries, rinsed and sliced
6 oz. Fresh blueberries, rinsed
Whipped Cream
If you like your strawberries sweet, mix them with 1/4 cup sugar and set aside.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a separate bowl mix biscuit mix, milk, sugar, and butter until soft dough forms. Drop 6 spoonfuls of dough on an ungreased cookie sheet. (I prefer to roll mine out a bit and cut out star shapes with a star-shaped cookie cutter). Bake 10-12 minutes.
Let shortcakes cool. Split open and top with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream. Enjoy your yummy patriotic dessert!

I constantly struggle to find time for myself or the things I think I need or want to do. I have been working for a while on getting organized and prioritizing my day to maximize what little time I have. I think, “once I find the perfect formula of daily activities I will be more productive.” Although this is true, I’ve lost sight of the one thing that needs to be first and foremost in every day and every thought–God’s plan for my day and God’s plan for my life.
How fitting that as I’ve been struggling with this a perfect song came on the radio today. This is why I love Air1 Positive Hits radio–the lyrics of God’s love and promises for our lives reminds me of his perfect plans for me.
The song that I heard today was, “First, ” by Lauren Daigle. Here are the lyrics:
Before I bring my need
I will bring my heart
Before I lift my cares
I will lift my arms
I wanna know You
I wanna find You
In every season
In every moment
Before I bring my need
I will bring my heart
And seek You
(chorus)
First
I want to seek You
I want to seek You
First
I want to keep You
I want to keep You
First
More than anything I want, I want You
First
Before I speak a word
Let me hear Your voice
And in the midst of pain
Let me feel Your joy
I wanna know You
I wanna find You
In every season
In every moment
Before I speak a word
I will bring my heart
And seek You
(chorus)
First
I want to seek You
I want to seek You
First
I want to keep You
I want to keep You…
Release Your Excuses
I am sharing this exercise from a leadership group that I am in. I mentioned last month about the value of being mentored, and I still highly recommend that you have someone in your life that can challenge you to reach out of your comfort zone.
1. START
Write down one thing that you feel you are struggling with in life.
Something you fell you can’t do or can’t master.
Begin your comment with “I can’t…”
(For example: “I can’t keep my office clean.” “I can’t wake up early.”)
2. RE-WRITE
Now, re-write your comment. Replace “I can’t” with “I won’t.”
3. REFLECT
How does that new statement make you feel?
4. RELEASE
Now do you see how what you thought was a result “I can’t keep my office organized,” is actually a CHOICE that you made not to do something. It’s time to release your excuses and take full responsibility for your results and actions.
Stop saying “I can’t.” Start saying “I won’t.” Then take action to release your excuses and fix it!
I would love for you to take on this challenge with me. Please write one of your “I won’t” statements in the comments and share how you are going to release the excuse and change that won’t into a will!
