The Name of Jesus: SAVIOR

What’s in a name? In the Bible, names are very important. So looking at the names of Jesus can bring an amazing picture of the character and different roles of Jesus.

Who is Jesus? Why did he come to earth? How can we have a greater understanding of the saving grace and purpose of Jesus.

Jesus as Savior means Salvation. John 4:42 says, “They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

In the devotional Jesus Lives, by Sarah Young, an excerpt on Hope, which is written from Jesus to YOU, states:

I am your Risen, Living Savior! Through my resurrection you have been born again to an ever-living hope. It is vital for you to remain hopeful, no matter what is going on in your life. People put their hope in a variety of things- wealth, power, health, medical treatments- but these are all insufficient. When storms break upon your life, you can find only one adequate source of help-ME! The hope I provide is an anchor for your soul, firm and secure in the midst of tempestuous waters. A good way to reamin anchored in Me is to whisper as often as needed: “Jesus, You are my Hope”. This affirmation strengthens you and keeps you connected to me.

I am constantly working to transofrm your life. You need My help continually to keep your hope alive. I stand ready to help you at all times- during stormy episodes as well as times of smooth sailing. I am not only ever-living but also more abundatly alive than you can possibly imagine. There are no limites to what My great Power and Glory can accomplish! I can change the most “hopeless” situation in outright victory. Moreover, as you affirm your trust in me- no matter how difficult your circumstances- I am able to transform you: gradually, lovingly. Tghose who hope in Me will not be disappointed.

Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever. Hebrews 6:19

Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glorty. Mark 13:26

Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed. Isaiah 49: 23

My prayer today:

Lord, help me live believing and living out that you are my Savior. May I trust in you, believe in you, and take action and make choices that show that you are my Hope, my God, and my Savior.  Transform my life from the inside out that I may live different. When I can’t find my way, you are my Savior. When I doubt myself, you are my Savior. When I need a hand, you are my Savior. May your hope be the anchor for my soul. Thank you for what you did for me on the cross, may I live every day thanking the power of your saving Grace. Amen

How can we help our children and families engage with Jesus as Savior?

Talk about Jesus. Talk about who he is. Read books about him. Especially at Christmas time, there are ample ways to engage with the Christmas story and learn about who Jesus is. Some of my favorite books: Charlie Brown Christmas, Usbourne Christmas Nativity Flap Book, Usbourne Nativity Touch and Feel book, Jesus Storybook Bible.

Ways to engage with Christmas and the names of Jesus:

*Use pain pens to write each name on a glass ornament ball and hang them on a Christmas tree.

*For kids who like to draw, have them write out the name on shrinky dink plastic and cut them out into shapes of ornaments. Then heat them in the oven and hang the hardened plastic ornament on a tree.

*Make a paper chain with one name on each link and then hang your link around a tree when it’s complete
