Tacky Sweater Tradition

As I have said before, I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I love the smells, the holiday spirit, the time with family! And, I love traditions! One of our newer traditions in the last few years has been to have a Tacky Sweater Party. This was not only a really fun time to find the ugliest sweaters in our homes (some of which were found in my mom’s closet…Sorry Mom, we were just helping you out! 😉 ) but it was also a great idea for gathering with friends when coming home from college! It gave us the opportunity to open up our home and see a large group of our friends to catch up and enjoy time together during our short break away from different colleges!    imageBethany and I would usually plan the Tacky Sweater Party at my parents house. Sometimes our two older married sisters would get to be apart of the party too! Our Tacky Sweater Parties were the ultimate party planning on a budget! We usually used Evite or Facebook Invites to get the word out, which is no cost! We  always had finger foods and baked goods (of course, since we all love baking, but something about the holidays just makes baking that much more fun!) Each new year, we  would try a new recipe for a treat, cookie, or snack mix to keep things just a little different! Usually the only extra cost we would have was to purchase Christmas colored paper plates and napkins! We always had a bin of extra sweaters in case someone did not come with one, because no one is allowed at the party without a tacky sweater 😉 Lastly, we had a Christmas movie playing, Wii games set up and a gingerbread house to decorate! Although there are always plenty of people to catch up with, it was a good idea to have a few planned out activities! Other than that, the house was open and ready for whoever could come that year and ready to see who could come up with the best TACKY SWEATER! The holidays can get pretty crazy, but this event always helped us remember the importance of spending time with friends and family!

Try something new this year and open your home to the TACKY SWEATERS in your life 🙂  It might take some preparation, but because it is a Tacky Sweater Party, the pressure is off. Just open your home for the holidays! Try some new cookie recipes, find a tacky sweater, and create and atmosphere of fun and comfort to bring the people in your lives together for the holidays!

[Unfortunately, our Media Button is not functioning properly today and will not allow me to upload photos to show you some of our BEST TACKY SWEATERS throughout the years…Hopefully, it will be up and running soon, and I will add some photos to the post!]
