How we quiet our hearts and minds

Life is busy… Do you find most of your days filled to the brim? What do you do to relax or find peace in the chaos? Here are some of the things we do!

Bethany:

Most recent read: You and Me Forever, by Francis Chan. This book is an incredible picture of how our marriages are really for the Lord and His kingdom but we so easily get distracted by having the “perfect marriage”. It changes the way you view marriage. It isn’t telling you to not enjoy it or be completely in love with your spouse, but you need to shift the way you view it. This book is really helping me put things in perspective and worship the Lord . Here is one quote.

  • “…most marriage problems are not really marriage problems. They are God problems. They can be traced back to one or both people having a poor relationship with God or a faulty understanding of Him” (p. 20-21).

Current devotional: Experiencing God Day by Day, by Henry Blackaby. This devotional takes Scripture and specific stories and examples in the Bible to draw out principles to learn and grow from for each day.  I love getting a small snippet of the Word and an applicable example that I can apply to my life.

How do I find peace: I like to spend time writing, journaling, praying, listening to music. I actually find peace exercising, running is a release for me.

Rachel:
Most recent read:Under the Never Sky I love reading because I can lose myself in a good book and that gives me peace. This book is fun, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and does a great job of describing characters and scenery–I felt like I was there. “
Current Devotional:Greater Devotional by Steven Furtick. Don’t settle for mediocrity. We were designed to do great things for God.”
How does Rach find peace: “Reading, exercise, and watching shows with my husband bring me peace.”

Jess:

Most recent read: “For the Love” by Jen Hatmaker
Current Devotional: “Ive been doing a Bible study/devotional called First5. Its an app. It’s really great because it is doable for me. I do not get much quiet time in this season of life. The ladies that put it together have created a Bible study going through different books of the Bible. There is a reading, devotional, and prayer every day and a weekend wrap up video for the weekend. “
How does Jess relax:”My kids have a rest time during the day, that is helpful. Quiet time before everyone wakes up, doesn’t always happen. Running. Cuddling with my hubby. Cuddling with my kids. Reading to my kids.”

Mom:
Current Read: “Plunder and Deceit by Mark R. Levin-the subject of this book does not bring “peaceful” thoughts as he describes a nation he loves in peril. He is writing to parents and grandparents of the upcoming generation to bring them awareness on the ruinous policies that he believes are destroying the prospects for our young peoples’ future. He is also writing to the younger generation to raise awareness about the problems they will be facing in their middle age if they do not start to pay attention. He does completely believe they have it in them to understand the problems arising and that they can avoid the coming catastrophe if they commit themselves to the hard work it will take to set our nation back on the right course to secure their future. Very eye opening and educational. The “Peace” for me comes in knowing that God is in control of our future but this book helps convict me about appreciating the freedom and liberty we have in this country. I want to help do something to keep our country strong and free for my children and grand children.”
Current devotional: “IfGathering daily devotional. It comes to my email inbox. I am excited to have the App on my phone. i love how this devo moves through passages of scripture for a comprehensive view of scripture.”
How mom finds peace: I find peace hiking in God’s beauty
