Growth through hardship — Your Great Hands

The last few months have not been easy, to say the least. At a time when we thought Residency would get easier, the stress has continued to pile on. We were so happy to get Hezi’s surgery done, but the recovery process was way more difficult than we were anticipating. It felt as if we were once again figuring out schedules, feedings, sleeping and everything else that comes with a newborn after those initial 3 months of putting in the work. And, adding to all that, Sophie is two…and taking it very seriously, if you know what I mean. Life just keeps going and I am often finding myself feeling like I cannot catch up. Often when this happens I try to control more (resulting in trusting less) which continues the vicious cycle.
We have really been loving listening to Jordan Feliz recently. After hearing him on Christian radio, we found his album, The River, to listen to his other songs. One of my favorites is Your Great Hands. The lyrics have really been resonating with me and pushing me to find peace from God and not in my everyday circumstances, especially when it feels the chaos is almost to much to handle.
I’m lookin’ at the broken pieces
Life shattered on this empty floor
I’ve tried so hard to simply keep it
I know there must be something more
I’m here now to turn it over; complete surrender
Into Your great hands, I will place my trust (ohh)
When I cannot stand, You will lift me up (ohh)
Every failure, every fear, every step that led me here
All I am, into Your great hands (ohh)
This goes against my every instinct
To loosen my grip and let go
But really all that I am risking
Is perfect peace in my soul
Into Your great hands (Your great hands), I will place my trust (ohh)
When I cannot stand (when I cannot stand), You will lift me up (ohh)
Every failure, every fear, every step that led me here, oh
All I am, into Your great hands (ohh)
These hands that took the nails (took the nails)
These hands, they will not fail (will not fail)
These hands that bear my scars (bear my scars)
These hands that hold my heart
Into Your great hands, into Your great hands
Into Your great hands (ooh), I will place my trust (ohh)
When I cannot stand, You will lift me up (You will lift me up; ohh)
Every failure, every fear, every step that led me here
All I am (all I am), into Your great hands (Your great hands; ohh)
Into Your great hands
Into Your great hands, ohh
Into Your great hands
Into Your great hands, ohh
As Easter comes upon us, a time of new life and growth, I am reminded to look at this time as a phase; a time that I will be able to look back on one day and see the growth through perseverance in the hardships. A time of newborn snuggles and hilarious “how-does-she-come up-with-this” toddler moments. A time where our family is in a life situation that few people really understand forcing us to cling to one another for strength. I want to look back on this time and see that I became a better person, a better mom, a better wife by allowing God to refine every aspect of me in the best of times and the worst of times. I am hoping for you today that you will push through, that you will believe that whatever you are going through, your efforts are not in vain and that God is carrying you with His great hands!
