Gift of Friendship

I had coffee with a friend this week that I haven’t seen in ten years. Sometimes I am hesitant to try to reconnect with someone after so long. “What will we talk about? What if things are way too different? What if she doesn’t want to get together?” It could be so many things, but I have to tell myself “what have I got to lose”.  We spend so much time analyzing, assessing and worrying about things when we just need to go for it. Whether it’s calling a friend, rekindling a friendship, working through conflict,  or meeting someone new… you just have to DO IT. Most of the time you can always find some common ground. It is just getting to that point to actually do it. So go for it.

My time this week got me thinking about how unique, wonderful, and priceless friendships are. Some friendships are for only for certain seasons of life, some start abruptly, others take time to flourish, but those special ones are timeless. And those are the ones that are such a gift. Priceless. That is the kind of friend I want to be. A blessing. A joy to be around. And priceless.

Catching up with her, although there was a huge gap in the middle of then and now, felt like we hadn’t skipped a beat. Sitting there I felt so blessed. Blessed by the conversation with a old and new friend. Blessed by sharing life stories. Blessed by reconnecting. And blessed by my heart full of life. What a good feeling.

Coffee, companionship, conversation. My favorite things. A way to walk through life together. A way to journey through the ups and downs. A way to pull each other up through the hard times. A way to celebrate the little things. A way to spread love, joy, and the gift of friendship.

Don’t let life get in the way of the friendships you are cultivating. Don’t let trials get in the way of those hard relationships that will be worth it one day.  And don’t let time go by without telling your friend how thankful you are for them.

Take some time this weekend to call a friend, go on a coffee date, or send a letter.  Whether it be a new acquaintance, a friend from the past, a lost relationship, or a forever soul mate, take the time to make someone feel loved and cherished. REMEMBER what it feels like to have your heart so full of love and friendship.  Give someone else that blessing.
