Easy Homemade Ornament Craft

Looking for a last-minute easy gift or just a fun craft to do with your kids? This easy homemade ornament craft was super fun and quick to make.

I was able to purchase all the supplies, make, and deliver all in the same day. I realized last minute (typical me) that we hadn’t made Christmas gifts for our Daisy troop. I make a quick stop at JoAnn’s (with lots and lots of coupons in hand) and found all the supplies I needed.

Supplies:

Clear Glass Ornaments

Pom Poms

Sharpie Paint Pens

I wasn’t able to find cute Christmas pom poms, so the girls helped me sort the variety bag. We made piles of all the red, green, and white pom poms then divided them evenly among the 6 ornaments. The girls really enjoyed putting the poms in the ornaments. It was a fun motor skill/math activity.

The next step was writing on the ornaments. I prepped the pens according to the directions on the pen, then looked on Pinterest for a really easy font to copy. Handwriting is not one of my skills, but I’m pretty good a copying, so having a visual helped!

I let one side of the ornament dry before I worked on the other side. I kept it simple and wrote the girl’s name on one side and our troop name on the other side.

And easy peasy, DONE!

Making Magical Memories at Christmastime

Creating magical memories at Christmas takes a lot of planning and preparation but it is well worth the effort!!
Almost 30 years ago, our family began a tradition with our 4 daughters. This year we passed that tradition on to the next generation and it was beyond magical. American Girl dolls were the first dolls our girls actually loved and played with regularly. In general they were not that interested in dolls but these dolls were different. They were well made, a high quality product with purpose behind the concept and each one had a story to tell.
A bit of interesting history behind the dolls….
“Pleasant Rowland, (a very inspirational woman) takes a trip to Colonial Williamsburg in the mid-1980s. She is inspired by the “living history” of the setting. Later, seeking dolls as a gift, she sees that there are very few dolls marketed as companions to a girl or focusing on girlhood.
In 1986, The American Girl line launches with three Historical Characters: Kirsten Larson, Samantha Parkington, and Molly McIntire. Each doll is launched with the first three books in her seriesand the clothing and accessories that accompany the stories, as well as their trunks. Felicity Merriman is released Fall 1991 with her first three books and accompanying clothing and accessories.” The year these dolls were introduced our girls were 5, 3 and newborn with our baby coming 3 years later. So in the early 1990s when we made the decision to invest in the dolls there was one perfect doll match per daughter. Kirsten, Molly, Samantha and Felicity became part of our family and the magic of creative imaginative play with the American Girl doll began.
In 1993 our youngest two daughters were treated to an exclusive event put on by the Chicago American Girl doll …

Preparing our Hearts for Christmas

I am a CHRISTMAS FANATIC! I love the preparations, the lights, the smell of the tree, baking cookies, cookie parties, decorating gingerbread houses, serving hot apple cider, listening to Christmas Carols and the gathering of friends and family. I love making memories and creating new ones. I love to make gifts and to give gifts because I love to bless other people. I love all things that sparkle and I love that Jesus is the center of it all……BUT is He really?

How do we keep the sense of magic that surrounds the holidays balanced between our family traditions and a rich time of spiritual reflection? This will look different in every family. My goal this year is to look at our traditions as something that can enhance, not distract from our celebration of a meaningful spiritual holiday BUT this is a CHALLENGE…….The week before Christmas we discovered a small leak under our refrigerator. What we thought was a small inconvenience has turned into a fiasco. We will spend the holidays with our refrigerator in our entry way and a huge part of our kitchen floor removed and patch up temporarily until we can get a construction crew in here to make the need repairs in January.

This is how I decorated the space in the kitchen where my refrigerator usually sits.

I have the opportunity this morning to talk to a group of women about how to prepare our hearts and minds for the TRUE celebration of the season so we can experience the TRUE meaning of Christmas. How do we insulate ourselves from the influences of the culture and at the same time shine so brightly for Jesus that the whole world (our circle of influence) will see and feel the light of life that dwells within us …

Thanksgiving 2016-so Much to be Thankful For!!!!

View More: http://jennadawnrenfrow.pass.us/couples

I can truly say that this year, I am most thankful for a loving and faithful husband who has loved me and supported me and celebrated me for almost 40 years! Love is a choice, a commitment, an investment in a relationship that teaches me tangible ways to experience God’s “hesed”. Hesed (chesed) is a Hebrew word for God’s lovingkindness. My husband, Rick, has continually demonstrated love in action towards me and our children and grandchildren and I thank God for him every day!!!!!

I am also thankful for good friends that support me in my passions. Our life group helped me plan a “Party with a Purpose” to help inform our neighbors and friends about the opportunity to put our love in action and support the Gogo Grandmothers ministry that I am involved in. It was a night full of fun and good food and many people opening their hearts to the poorest of the poor. I am so grateful for the outpouring of love and support

Bethany is “thankful for the blessings of my baby boy, life as a mom and a God who is so faithful”.fullsizerender-9fullsizerender-10

Jess shared, “This year, I’m very thankful for our new home for many reasons, here are some of them: our family loves to be there, we love our neighbors, we are close to my husband’s work, and the kids play and ride bikes around the cul-de-sac.”fullsizerender-12

Bekah shared, “I am thankful for my little family, my daughter that is so full of joy, our latest adventure …

This Thanksgiving…Serving Gogo Grandmothers & Helping the Poorest of the Poor

THIS THANKSGIVING…find a way to give back!!! Being thankful is a very important aspect of life. When we acknowledge all the good things that bring JOY into our lives, we open up our emotional and spiritual barriers that regulate our ability to bless others. When gratitude, love, peace and contentment fill our lives we open the floodgates and can overflow with JOY to the people around us. As some of you know from a few things I have shared …I am involved in a ministry in Malawi, Africa that serve the poorest of the poor. The group is called SAFE/Gogo Grandmothers. (SAFE stands for Sub-Saharan African Family Enrichment and Gogo Grandmothers is a subset of that broader ministry). This is a registered NGO, approved 501(c)3 non- profit organization that reaches out to African grandmothers raising the orphans of AIDS in the sub-Saharan country of Malawi. There are over one million orphans in Malawi, which is now the POOREST country in all of Africa. There is also a famine occurring in this area which puts these orphans at even greater risk. GOGO Grandmothers are reaching out to an entire generation of lost children providing the grandmothers with basic needs like seeds, fertilizer, mosquito nets, blankets, preschool and feeding programs.

This Thanksgiving season, I would like to challenge each of our followers to find a way to take action and show gratitude for all the ways you have been blessed. Spend some time with your family and pick an organization or ministry where you can go and volunteer for a day. Help out a neighbor or visit an assisted living facility and drop off treats or just go talk to the residents. It is amazing how a little bit of love can bring so much JOY into a lonely or needy person’s …

Have a Healthy Holiday Season

Our Fall challenge is wrapping up and we are so excited to offer you another way to stay plugged in with healthy habits this holiday season.

The holidays are and have always been a favorite in the Weisser family. It is a time to connect and a time for traditions and time together. However, in the past, I have so easily succumbed to the negative effects of parties and traveling leaving me feeling bloated and lacking energy and motivation.

Luckily, I don’t worry about that anymore and I embrace the crazy and fun holiday season. Since changing my nutrition 2 years ago, adding the minerals and nutrient dense foods my body was craving I have found a balance between exercise and healthy eating and sitting on the couch sipping hot chocolate. PLUS, with nutritional cleansing, you can always take a day or two of intermittent fasting to get your cells happy and get back on track. PLUS, you can eat chocolate. HAPPY DANCE!

So what IS this solution? It’s a community of men and women sharing recipes, workouts from professional trainers, snacks, and holiday healthy life hacks to keep you healthy during the holidays and in life! You don’t have to be using our nutrition that we are always talking about (because we LOVE it), but we will be talking heavily about it because IT HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES. It is how we’ve found a convenient and healthy balance to fuel ourselves and our families.

How do you join? We have a private group on Facebook so comment here, on Facebook, or email us  at weisserwomen@growingweisser.com.

Important dates:

Saturday, October 29 at 9am PST is a LIVE event to talk all about the challenge and the nutrition we use. This will be in the Facebook group so you will need …

Celebrating the BIG “60”

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 has been one of my favorite verses my whole life. This weekend was a beautiful picture of the “desires of my heart” being fulfilled as I experienced the gift of family and 3 generations of God’s lovingkindness and mercy that has been poured out over my family. All 19 of us, (my sweet husband, 4 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, and 9 grandkids), gathered on the beach in San Diego to celebrate my 60th birthday and it will be a weekend that I will never forget. img_9628 img_9629 img_9630 img_9631 img_9632 img_9633imageThe legacy of love that God has gifted to our family runs deep and the grace of God that raised me up as a daughter of the King of Kings at the age of 15 began a life for me that changed the “desires of my heart”.  It is not that my desires had been wrong or self serving-they were just more self centered and goal oriented according to the world’s standards. As I began to get to know my Lord and Savior in a personal way, I realized that my hopes and dreams had much more to do with leaving a legacy of love than making a name for myself. As I have “delighted myself in the Lord” over the past 45 years, He has challenged me to look outward, to live boldly, to serve with generosity, to love unconditionally, to stay committed to my faith, to choose wisely and to trust and obey Him always. I will never regret one day that I have stayed true to this calling.

What are the desires of your heart?

Less is More

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do things just keep piling up and you have no idea how to tackle them.

STOP.

Take a step back and refocus. Why are these things piling up? What is REALLY important?

I find that it is so easy to get weighed down by the small stuff. We think we have to be doing and going all the time. But is that really important? We’ve been talking a lot this month about setting goals, focusing on goals, and having a positive mindset.

Goal setting gives us a focus. And I would challenge you to narrow that focus down even further, down to ONE THING. I just listened to a great podcast, LINK HERE, about living a life of focus so we can have more by doing less. According to Geoff Woods, we need to identify ONE thing and do it every day, day after day. Taking a little action every day toward our goals. Over time those small actions will have a compound effect and a massive payoff for you life!

I have been working on positive affirmations, and this week, I found one that really spoke to me because it was right down to the heart of MY one thing — Being a present, loving mom for my kids. Here’s the affirmation: “If I do nothing today but hug my kids, I’ve done enough.”

It doesn’t have to be big to be great. There are opportunities for greatness all around us. We just have to focus on the right things!

Tremendous Tacos

Did you celebrate National Taco Day this past Tuesday?

I love tacos, so this is officially my new favorite food holiday! I was excited to try this new taco recipe from Mealime, but looking at the recipe I just knew it needed something in the tacos besides beans.

Beans are high in protein, fiber, B vitamins, iron, potassium and minerals, BUT can also be hard on the stomach SO I added sweet potatoes to this recipe to increase the health benefits! Sweet potatoes have the health benefits of potassium, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and soluble fiber PLUS they are delicious.

These tacos also have the added benefit of being vegetarian, so they are great on your wallet and your waistline. I always try to incorporate more plant-based meals where meat it either not a part of the meal or is just an “accessory” to the meal.

Sweet Potato and Black Bean “Tremendous Tacos”

Love Languages

Do you know your love language?

I am reading the book, The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. I love the idea of recognizing how we show and feel love. It is so practical.

Recently, a good friend encouraged me to do the test verbally with my children. Although I have yet to do the test, I am seeing first hand how valuable it is to love our kids using their language.

I have been having a hard time with my 4 year old. We are very similar, and butt heads a lot. School has been helpful, she has her own thing, but we have still had hard times. This past Saturday I made time for just the two of us. We went shopping at a local consignment shopping event to get her shoes and pajamas. SHE WAS IN HEAVEN. She probably hugged me and told me she loved me about 20 times. I realized how much she needed that quality time, for me to say YES to time with her, and for her to be alone for a little bit away from her younger sisters.

This past week her behavior has been better, and she was recognized at school for good behavior 3 days in a row! I was able to take her to pick out small prizes after school and even set aside a little money to get a treat she has been wanting from Disneyland.

I feel like the love languages have given me a tool in my tool belt to recognize that my husband, and children all have unique needs and ways they feel loved. I am excited to put this more into practice to work on all of our relationships and to help my girls recognize their love languages and how we show love …
